This lecture discusses the rationale for deciding between partial carpal versus pancarpal arthrodesis. Evaluation of stress-applied radiographic views determines the most appropriate options. However, consideration must also be given to owner's acceptance of the likelihood of the need for implant removal and the importance of maintaining as much carpal range of motion as possible. This lecture also discusses the development of procedure-specific implants and how they relate to the decision making process.
