This lecture discusses a challenging case where a dog fractured his greater trochanter ~7 months post total hip replacement. This fracture was repaired with a bone plate and screws with the additional of rhBMP-2 and antibiotic-impregnated calcium sulfate beads. The trochanteric fracture healed but severe mineralization of the soft-tissues occurred post-operatively. This lecture discusses the potential causes of the trochanteric fracture and the potential risks of combining bone morphogenic protein with calcium sulfate beads.
