Septic arthritis of the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint is a prevalent and painful condition in farm animals, particularly cattle, often leading to significant lameness and reduced productivity. While digit amputation is a common treatment, it can result in long-term complications, including degenerative changes in the remaining digit and a shortened productive lifespan.
This seminar will explore joint ankylosis as a viable alternative, offering improved comfort, restored weight-bearing capacity, and enhanced long-term outcomes. Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of various surgical techniques used to achieve ankylosis, along with practical insights into common challenges and how to avoid them.
