Surgeon Veterinary Care and Specialty Group Chattanooga, Tennessee
This lecture presents a combination of the results two recent patient positioning studies In the clinical study, the ability of a vacuum positioning bag to maintain patient position during THR surgery was evaluated. While perfect lateral position was not maintained, very few cases shifted more than 10 degrees. The second study, which was a cadaver study, evaluated the accuracy of free hand patient positioning, without the aid of fluoroscopy. Further, the accuracy of positioning was compared between experienced THR surgeons versus veterinarians with no THR primary surgical experience. All individuals were quite accurate and there was no significant difference between experienced THR surgeons and those with no THR experience.
