Recent advancements have led to the development of many minimally invasive surgical (MIS) techniques in both human and veterinary medicine. The development of MIS techniques results from a desire to provide expanded treatment options with improved patient care, quicker recovery times, and a decreased risk of surgical complications. MIS procedures offer the farm animal surgeon a means of elevating patient care, improving efficiency, expanding diagnostic capabilities, and broadening the spectrum of surgical techniques feasible for treatment of a variety of pathologies. This seminar highlights various MIS techniques utilized in farm, production, and livestock companion animals, with an emphasis on unique anatomic considerations and specific disease processes seen in these types of patients.
