Orthopedic Surgery for Technicians

In this seminar, VTS technicians and board-certified surgeons present various orthopedic topics used by surgical technicians. Discussion includes an explanation of a complete orthopedic exam, open fracture assessment and treatment, and 3D printing in surgery. This seminar also explores the use of orthobiologics and how technicians are involved, arthroscopic and nanoscope equipment use and maintenance, as well as interpretation of radiographs related to quality, positioning, and diagnostic capability for the surgeon.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the procedure for a complete orthopedic exam and how the evaluation affects the diagnosis.
  • Distinguish the various methods of use, cleaning and maintenance of minimally invasive equipment such as arthroscopes and nanoscopes.
  • Discuss the role of the technician in various orthopedic procedures and how the use of orthobiologics may be indicated and utilized in various procedures.
