Professor Small Animal Surgery Washington State University Pullman, Washington
Open to ACVS and ECVS Diplomates and residents
During this 90-minute laboratory, participants have access to one virtual simulator per two participants. The LAP Mentor Express simulations follow structured canine curricula. Though depicting human anatomy and procedures, they are selected to provide important technical and procedural skills that translate to surgery in dogs. The participants alternate to perform the simulated surgical procedure(s) of their choice. If desired, they can also choose to perform simulation exercises that train isolated tasks relevant to the procedure. Each participant has approximately 45 min hands-on time with their simulator. The laboratory chair, an experienced canine laparoscopic surgeon, will circulate in the room to provide the participants feedback and suggestions for technique improvement. Participants will receive an email prior to the Summit with their 90-minute assigned time slot, between 8 am and 12:30 pm.
Prior to the laboratory, participants receive online access to curricular video tutorial material covering the foundational knowledge and instruction needed for one advanced canine MIS procedure of their choice. The options include laparoscopic adrenalectomy, cholecystectomy or gastropexy. They also have access to narrated video demonstrations of these procedures in canine patients.
The laboratory is eligible for an estimated 90 minutes of CE. The online tutorial material is informational only, and not eligible for CE.
