Techniques to Optimize Your Approach to Ophthalmic Surgeries

Open to all veterinarians

Lecture 1: Ocular and adnexal anatomy. Ophthalmic surgical instrumentation.
Lecture 2: Surgical diseases of the eyelids. Discuss neoplasia, chalazions, and dermoids.
Lecture 3: Surgical correction of structural eyelid abnormalities. Discuss entropion, brachycephalic ocular syndrome, Ectropion-Entropion (ie. “Diamond shaped eye”).
Lecture 4: Eyelid Laceration Repair.

LAB 1: Right eye: Eyelid correction: Choose a technique from Lecture 2 or 3. Eyelid laceration: Repair an instructor-created eyelid laceration based on techniques from Lecture 4.

Lecture 5: Anatomy and surgical techniques of the third eyelid. Discuss third eyelid (TEL) gland prolapse repositioning. Discuss TEL neoplasia along with indication and techniques for TEL removal.
Lecture 6: Indications for enucleation. Discuss surgical approach and techniques for transconjunctival and transpalpebral enucleation.

LAB 2: Left eye: Third eyelid surgery: Choose a TEL surgery from Lecture 5. Enucleation. Perform a transconjunctival or transpalpebral enucleation.

If time allows:
Lecture 7: Surgical treatment of distichia and ectopic cilia.
Lecture 8: Surgical indication for and treatment of TEL everted T-cartilage repair and TEL Shortening.
Lecture 9: Case-based review lecture.

This laboratory includes the use of cadavers.
