Dr. Matsuura is a Clinical Assistant Professor specializing in open-heart surgery at the University of Florida's College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. Prior to joining UF in July 2023, Dr. Matsuura practiced in Japan, where he performed over 100 successful mitral valve repairs with a success rate exceeding 90%. His expertise has been instrumental in establishing an open-heart surgery program in the US, allowing dogs with mitral valve disease to receive surgical treatment in the US. Dr. Matsuura's research interests include techniques in canine mitral valve repair, advanced imaging techniques and hemodynamic assessments in veterinary cardiology, with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals.
