Dr. Hettlich is a graduate from the veterinary college in Munich, Germany. She pursued postgraduate training in small animal surgery at Texas A&M University in the United States and obtained board certification with the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2006. She remained at Texas A&M for a total of 9 years before joining the small animal orthopedics team at The Ohio State University, where she received tenure with promotion to associate professor in 2014. In 2015, she moved back to Europe and joined the Vetsuisse Faculty in Bern, Switzerland, where she habilitated in the care of canine spine biomechanics. In 2021, she returned to Germany, initially working as a small animal orthopedic and spine surgeon in private practice and currently joining the veterinary college in Hannover as professor of surgery. Dr. Hettlich is an internationally recognized spine researcher and speaker for learning events in spinal surgery.
