Dr. Sun Young Kim is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Small Animal) and a veterinary clinician-scientist specializing in small animal orthopedic surgery. He is currently an Associate Professor and Program Director of the Small Animal Surgery Residency at Purdue University.
Dr. Kim earned his veterinary degree from Seoul National University in 2000, where he also completed his initial clinical and research training. In 2004, he was invited to Michigan State University as an international surgical fellow and subsequently served as a Junior Specialist in Comparative Orthopedic Research at the University of California, Davis. He went on to complete a small animal rotating internship at the University of Florida, followed by a residency in small animal surgery at UC Davis. He remained at UC Davis as a faculty member in small animal orthopedics from 2012 to 2015. Dr. Kim returned to Michigan State University in 2015, where he was a faculty member in Small Animal Orthopedics until joining Purdue University in 2020. At Purdue, he leads both the 3D Modeling and Printing Laboratory and the Gait Analysis Laboratory within the College of Veterinary Medicine.
His clinical and research interests include biomechanics, angular limb deformities, 3D modeling, computer-assisted orthopedic surgery, minimally invasive techniques, orthopedic traumatology, especially in articular and juxta-articular fracture management, and work-related musculoskeletal injuries in veterinary surgeons—all within the domain of orthopedics.
