Dr. Youngsam Kwon is a professor of veterinary surgery at Kyungpook National University, South Korea, where he has served since 2009. He earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Veterinary Medicine from the same institution, specializing in veterinary surgery. His academic journey has included research fellowships and international collaborations, notably as a clinical fellow at Hokkaido University in Japan and a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He also served as a visiting scholar at the UC Davis Eye Center in the United States.
Dr. Kwon’s research focuses on regenerative medicine using mesenchymal stem cells and exosomes, experimental models for dry eye disease, and cellular protection against cold and hypoxic injury. He has published widely in international peer-reviewed journals in the fields of veterinary medicine, ophthalmology, and tissue engineering.
He has held several leadership roles, including Director of the KNU Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (2019–2024), Chair of the Scientific Committee of the Korean Society of Veterinary Clinics (2022–2023), and Chair of the Scientific and Educational Committee of the Korean Society of Veterinary Surgery (2023). As of 2025, he is serving as Vice President of the Korean Society of Veterinary Surgery.
Dr. Kwon is widely recognized for his surgical expertise, scientific contributions, and commitment to veterinary education and clinical innovation.
