After graduating from Brown University in 1986, Dr. Lirtzman received his veterinary degree from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. He completed a one-year rotating internship at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Teaching Hospital (1990-1991) and between 1991 and 1995, he was a resident and chief resident in Small Animal Surgery at the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Lirtzman is the founder and principal partner of Arizona Canine Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and brings more than 34 years of CFX cemented and 20 years BFX cementless total hip experience to private clinical practice.
Dr. Lirtzman is the innovator of the Cup Position Assessment Device (CPAD) for intra-operative radiographic evaluation of acetabular cup angle of lateral opening, retroversion and inclination angle. He is a leader in the U.S. in the area of intra-operative imaging of canine total hip replacement to (1) improve bone preparations and implants size-orientation, (2) to reduce intra- and postoperative complications and (3) to improve short and long-term functional outcomes. Dr. Lirtzman has co-authored three publications and one abstract and has presented several ACVS lab and podium lectures on the subject since 2020.
Dr. Lirtzman serves as a clinical consultant to DePuy Synthes Vet/Johnson & Johnson Medtech and is a member of both the workshop education-mentoring group and the Design-Review Team for innovations with BioMedtrix/Movora Universal Total Hip Replacement.
