Gal Kelmer was born and grew up in Israel. Studied biology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem; Israel. Later he studied veterinary medicine at the same University. After earning his DVM, he stayed for an Internship at the Large Animal Departement of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) at Koret School of Veterinary Medicine (KSVM). After the Internship he worked independently as an ambulatory equine practitioner. He searched for a LA surgical residency and matched for one in Missouri USA (UMC). During the residency Gal also persued a Master degree in equine kinematics. In 2006 he passed board exams and became a diplomate of the ACVS. Following the residency; he worked at the University of Tennessee VTH for 2 years and then, in 2009, returned home to the KSVM in Israel. At the KSVM developed and directed a residency program by both the ACVS and the ECVS and in 2013 was nominated to the head of the department. In 2025 he became a full Professor.
