During this seminar, different techniques used for the reconstruction of the upper GI tract will be reviewed. It will include the Y-U pyloroplasty, the Billroth I, and the Roux in Y principle. The Roux in Y principle can be applied to avoid a Billroth II or to rebuild the biliary tract in dogs and cats. It prevents the afferent loop syndrome, the dumping syndrome, and ulceration of the gastrojejunal anastomosis. It also prevents the reflux of the GI content into the gallbladder. Several cases will be used to illustrate each technique. The outcome of those procedures is highly dependent on the underlying disease.
