Rural Area Veterinary Services, Humane World for Animals
Honolulu, Hawaii
Dr. Aleisha Swartz graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. Some of the most impactful experiences of her career were those spent as a student volunteer for the veterinary program at Remote Area Medical (RAM), founded by Eric Davis, DVM, MS, DACVS. RAM later became part of what is now Humane World for Animals and continues on today as Rural Area Veterinary Services or RAVS. After graduation she practiced in a small animal hospital in Atlanta before going into shelter medicine. In 2015, Dr. Swartz did a Fellowship with the University of Wisconsin Shelter Medicine Program, going on to spend 5 years working with the UWSMP as the Chief of Service, and continues on staff as a clinical instructor.
She joined the RAVS team at Humane World full-time in 2021 to combine her loves of providing high-quality veterinary care in field clinics, teaching, and supporting efforts to increase equitable access to veterinary care for all pets and their families. She shares the RAVS vision of a world where every companion animal and their family have access to essential health care, driven by an engaged veterinary profession with the knowledge and skills to provide the best possible care in any setting, and the commitment to extend that care to all animals.
Aleisha lives in Hawaii, working from home between clinics. She volunteers as the Lead for the Honolulu Street Dog Coalition Team, providing free veterinary care to pets of people experiencing homelessness, and continues to work with shelters in her region.
