Dr. Sara Colopy graduated from the University of Wisconsin, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at North Carolina State University. She returned to the University of Wisconsin for her residency in Small Animal Surgery, obtaining Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Surgery in 2009. She then completed a PhD in Comparative Biomedical Sciences in 2012, with a focus on progenitor cells and healing of the urinary bladder. She is currently an assistant teaching professor at the University of Wisconsin. Her clinical interests include thoracic, biliary, and urinary surgery. She enjoys the unique challenge and diversity of exotic animal surgery and has several publications in this field. Dr. Colopy has a passion for clinical teaching and expanding early hands-on learning oppurtunities for students, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in veterinary medicine, and improving access to surgical care for both shelter animals and disadvantaged clients.
