Dr. Nelson completed both her DVM degree and residency training at The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to moving to North Carolina State University in May 2017, she was an Associate Professor of small animal soft tissue surgery at Michigan State University (2008-17). At NC State, she served as Associate Dean and Director of Academic Affairs at the College of Veterinary Medicine for seven years (2017-24) and Associate Vice Provost of Academic Personnel and Policy for one year (2024-25). She is currently a Professor of Veterinary Education and Director of Clinical Education at NC State's College of Veterinary Medicine.
