Dr. Lanz earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 1992. He
completed a small animal internship at Michigan State University, followed by a residency in
small animal surgery at the University of Florida in 1998. In 1999, he achieved board
certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and joined the
Virginia–Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine faculty, where he now serves as Professor
and Chief of Small Animal Surgery. In 2023, he was honored as a Founding Fellow in Joint
Replacement Surgery by the ACVS.
His clinical and research interests focus on total joint replacement (hip and elbow), fracture
biomechanics, and stifle surgery. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has
consulted with and taught for Kyon for more than ten years. Dr. Lanz is committed to training
the next generation of veterinary surgeons through residency supervision, fellowship mentorship,
and invited lectures both nationally and abroad.
In August 2025, he will begin practicing at Spry Companions Veterinary Orthopedic Specialists
in Colorado.
