Alberta A. Arviso, PhD is Dine’ from the Navajo Nation, is currently the Senior Engagement Officer, University of Arizona (UA) College of Veterinary Medicine, Oro Valley, Arizona. Dr Arviso is a skilled psychologist with vast experience in hospital, community, and school-based programs. At UA, she works collaboratively with early outreach (grades K-12), community college & Tribal college pathway programming, and service-learning opportunities. Dr. Arviso has a strong history of mentoring Native American and underrepresented students in health profession programs. She is dedicated to respectful professional university-Tribal community engagement and partnerships by honoring sovereignty. Dr Arviso excels at integrating Indigenous knowledge systems with Western educational frameworks. Dr Arviso is grateful to promote holistic wellness through a culturally fluent framework. She is proud of her cultural heritage and is fluent in Diné Bizaad (Navajo Language). She has a lifelong commitment to animal welfare and holds a steadfast belief in advancing inclusivity. Dr Arviso is a first-generation college student. Her doctoral degree is in clinical psychology from Washington State University (WSU). Her post-doctoral degree is in school psychology from the University of Arizona (UA). She is a new Fellow with the Teaching Academy of the Consortium of West Region Colleges of Veterinary Medicine (RTA). Dr. Arviso is a wife, mother, sister, auntie, and grandmother who honors Ke’ (relationships) and sustaining community. She is the Past President of Section 6: Alaska Native/American Indian/Indigenous Women, American Psychological Association Division 35 Society for the Psychology of Women. She is an advocate with professional work experience involving MMIP, ICWA, and boarding schools. She has a deep passion for supporting veterans, individuals with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations. Dr Arviso loves to run, read, laugh, ride horses, and spend time with family.
